FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT FIXED & STATIONARY AWNINGS.
Why choose fixed over retractable?
Fixed awnings have no motor, no arms and nothing to operate, so there's less to go wrong and they generally handle weather better. The trade-off is that the shade is permanent — you don't get to choose sun on a cool day.

Are fixed awnings better in wind?
Generally yes, because they're built as a rigid structure rather than something that extends. That's a real advantage on exposed lots and in desert wind, where a retractable has to be closed.
Do they need much maintenance?
Less than a retractable, since there's no mechanism. Occasional rinsing to keep dust and salt off the fabric is most of it, and that matters more inland and at the coast than in between.
Can a fixed awning be removed later?
It's a permanent structure, so removal is a job rather than a decision — worth being sure about placement before fabrication. We'll walk the position with you at the measure.
Where do fixed awnings work best?
Over entries, windows and walkways where you always want cover, and on exposed or windy sites where a retractable would spend half its life closed. For a patio you'd like open on cool days, a retractable is the better fit.
