What is a shade structure, as opposed to an awning?
A shade structure is freestanding — it carries its own posts and doesn't need a wall. That makes it the answer when there's nothing solid to mount to, when you want shade away from the house, or when the span is too large to cantilever off a building.
Can you build a custom canopy to specific dimensions?
Yes. We fabricate to your measurements, including slatted and custom-profile canopies rather than only standard sizes. Send dimensions and photos of the space and we'll work from those.
Will a freestanding structure survive wind on an open lot?
It depends entirely on how it's footed and framed, which is why open-lot structures are engineered rather than picked from a catalog. Tell us the exposure and we'll size it for the conditions.
Can a shade structure cover a commercial seating or waiting area?
Yes — outdoor dining, bar patios, waiting areas and equipment shade are all common. Commercial structures are quoted separately because loads, clearances and approvals differ from residential.
Can a shade structure stand on an existing patio slab?
Sometimes, but posts need proper footings and a slab poured for foot traffic isn't always enough, especially on an open, windy lot. We check the slab and the ground on site before we say yes.
