Manual or motorized — which should I get?
Motorized if you'll use it most days or the awning is large; manual if it's a smaller span and you don't mind cranking it. The honest deciding factor is size: past a certain width a manual awning is heavy enough that people stop bothering to open it.
What happens if the wind picks up while it's open?
A retractable should be closed in strong wind — that's true of every brand. If you're often out when the wind comes up, a wind sensor retracts it automatically, and on exposed lots we'd recommend one rather than treat it as an upgrade.
How far out can a retractable awning reach?
Projection is the number that matters for shade and it's the one people underestimate. Larger projections need heavier arms and a stronger mounting surface, so what your wall can carry sometimes limits the size before your budget does. We check that on site.
Can a retractable be wind-rated for a commercial span?
Large commercial retractables are engineered differently from residential ones, and wind rating is part of the specification rather than an afterthought. Tell us the span, the projection and the exposure and we'll quote to it.
What maintenance does a retractable awning need?
Rinse the fabric occasionally, keep it closed in wind and rain, and let it dry before retracting it after a shower. The motor and arms need little beyond that; if it starts hesitating, call us before it stops.
